PAMA began in 1979 as the "Water Street Exercise Studio" in the old Petaluma
Mill. The School moved to the historic McNear Building in 1981, and became
"Petaluma Kenpo Karate School". The School has enjoyed its current home in
the Hatchery Building since 1983. In 2004, on the School's 25th Anniversary, it
became the "Petaluma Academy of Martial Arts".
Mr. Daniel Cuthbertson (known as "Mr. C." to students) is the
owner and head instructor of Petaluma Academy of Martial
Arts. For the past 27 years, Mr. C. has found that the
discipline his school teaches can help both adults and
children to channel their frustrations and agressiveness into
a non-violent outlet and manage anger in a positive way. Mr.
C.'s Kenpo and Escrima blend of training is excellent for
spontaneous response to attack, using anything and
everything available as a weapon. This training, combined
with kickboxing, helps students deal with contact and helps
build confidence and physical endurance.
Scott Pritchard, co-ordinator of the Children's Program, takes pride in having the
opportunity to instruct at PAMA. As an active member of the Petaluma Youth
Commission and serving on the Advisory Board of a local school, Scott
understands how essential it is to develop the mental, emotional, and physical
capabilities of his students, providing them with valuable self-defense techniques,
while creating a safe and joyful environment in which to learn. The core values of
martial arts, which are a combination of mind, body and spirit, are ever present in
his classes. Scott's training as a student of Mr. C in Kenpo Karate, Escrima, and Tai
Chi give him a rich base to draw upon when working with all students.
