Asana, or physical yoga, is one of eight limbs of yoga. The physical form focuses on postures, movement, alignment and most importantly, the breath as a means to move into the internal stillness. It is a moving meditation that unites our physical form with our emotional, energetic, and spiritual aspects. As we unite all aspects of our being, we are able to experience calm, clearmindedness, balance, surrender, trust, and openheartedness. We move into present time so that we live our lives fully and abundantly. Yoga taught by Nikki Cuthbertson is athletic, yet meditative. It has a flowing quality that lends itself to becoming aware of the charkas and in our internal state. She incorporates both ashtanga, an athletic form of practice, and yin yoga. a deeply internal, softer style yoga to create balanced practice. Strong emphasis is on breath to initiate movements, deepen the pose and increase stamina. All classes are multi-level. Pose modifications are taught to encourage proper alignment. She teaches group classes, private lessons, and workshops. Nikki has been a yoga teacher at PAMA for 5 years. She has three sons and can fully appreciate the challenge of balancing family life with livelihood and private time. Nikki is a Registered Nurse, Reiki Practitioner, and co-owner of Petaluma Academy of Martial Arts. |
